Choose your emotions vs. letting emotional reactions run your lifeJun 16, 2023
The way we feel has a HUGE impact on the way we experience life.
When we feel “positive” emotions such as happiness, excitement, and peace - our energy is renewed.
When we feel “negative” emotions such as anger, fear, depression, and sadness - our energy is depleted.
*side note: emotions are not really "positive" or "negative" all emotions are valid, but when we spend most of our life feeling emotions that renew our energy life is a lot easier!
Most of us spend our lives letting our emotions dictate our experience of life. But it doesn’t need to be this way.
For most of my life, I dealt with my emotions and feelings the best I could. I focused on the people I hung out with, exercise, traveling, music, alcohol, and even drugs to make me feel better.
But these were all short-term fixes. And when they finished I was left feeling exactly the same way.
Then I learned a simple, but very powerful technique that turned my feelings and emotions into a choice. Choosing our emotions is a skill that can be taught and learned by anyone.
This technique is being used by top athletes in the NBA, the PGA tour, and in Major League Baseball to get into ‘the zone’ before games. But it can also be applied in everyday life or at work in the same way.
With a bit of practice, I learned to apply the technique whilst in meetings and in the middle of a conversation. Now, when I notice I’m feeling distracted, I can switch to feeling present. Or when I’m feeling sad, I can now switch to feeling happy.
This technique has literally changed my life and is one of the reasons I chose to start my business coaching people because I want to share techniques to help people lead healthier and happier lives.
The best thing I've found is that this technique doesn't take long to learn or practice.
